Drawn to Graphite
Tuesday, January 20, 7:00PM
FREE, register here
When we’re learning to draw, it’s easy to experiment with every tool under the sun. But nothing builds foundational skills quite like a simple pencil. Working in graphite teaches us how pressure affects line, texture, and tone, and it’s one of the most effective ways to explore value through shading. In this presentation, local artist and urban sketcher Gabriel Campanario will share how he uses pencil in his regular sketching practice and discuss examples from his sketchbooks.
Gabriel Campanario Bio:
Gabriel Campanario is the founder of Urban Sketchers and former visual journalist with The Seattle Times. Founded in 2007, Urban Sketcher has morphed into a global community with over 300 chapters worldwide. He currently runs Sketcher Press, an independent publishing house dedicated to empowering sketcher artists from around the world.

Throwback Thursday Movie
The Edmonds Chamber is happy to partner with Ken Grant from Windermere Real Estate and the Edmonds Theater on the return of THROWBACK THURSDAYS! We're happy to share a little word from Ken himself on the return of a special community event:
"I’ve always been a huge movie fan — nothing beats the magic of the movies on a big screen. That’s why I’m sooooo proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Edmonds Theatre’s Throwback Thursday series this year.
Small, local cinemas matter. They’re part of the heartbeat of a community, and keeping them relevant means showing up, supporting local, and celebrating the stories that bring us together.
Things kick off on January 22nd (6:30pm) with an homage to the great Rob Reiner with 'When Harry Met Sally'. Tix are just $5! So come on out, make a night of it, and we'll see you there."

Love and Attraction In Renaissance Art
Tuesday, February 10, 7:00PM
FREE, register here
Renaissance artists were obsessed with the pursuit of beauty and the visual expression of love. During a period when overt depictions of attraction were generally censured, how did Medieval & early modern artists celebrate, vilify, and interpret the sting of cupid’s arrow? Come learn with us this Valentine’s season!
Lane Eagles Bio:
Lane Eagles has a Ph.D and Master’s degree in Art History and serves on the faculty for the Masters of Arts in Museology program at the University of Washington Information School. La Fille Mal Gardée (Excerpts) by OBT Artistic Directors Oleg Gorboulev and Mara Vinson after Alexander Gorsky with music by Peter Hertel
From the Dark Land by Donald Byrd with music by George Crumb
La Fille Mal Gardée (Excerpts)
Choreography: Mara Vinson & Oleg Gorboulev after Alexander Gorsky
Composer: Peter Hertel
Premiere: 1789, Grand Théatre de Bordeaux
Lighthearted and full of charm, La Fille Mal Gardée is one of the oldest surviving ballets in the repertoire. Set to a lively score by Ferdinand Hérold and choreographed by Alexander Gorsky, this delightful comedy follows the spirited Lise as she outsmarts her mother’s plans for an arranged marriage in order to be with the man she truly loves. With its playful humor, colorful characters, and joyous dancing, La Fille Mal Gardée remains a beloved favorite for audiences of all ages.
From the Dark Land
Choreography: Donald Byrd
Composer: George Crumb
Premiere: 2023, Olympic Ballet Theatre
Olympic Ballet Theatre brings back Donald Byrd’s bold and thought-provoking ballet, From the Dark Land, for the first time since its premiere in 2023. Set to George Crumb’s Black Angels, 13 Images from the Dark Land for electric string quartet—paired with the haunting second movement of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden—this new work explores the tension between beauty and dissonance, chaos and calm.
Byrd’s choreography does not shy away from discomfort; instead, it provokes reflection, inviting audiences to question their own reactions to the unsettling and the unfamiliar. Evocative and layered, From the Dark Land channels themes of conflict, mortality, and Romantic fascination with death into a striking theatrical experience.
A Tony-nominated and Bessie Award-winning choreographer, Byrd is renowned for using dance as a social and civic instrument. With From the Dark Land, he challenges both dancers and audiences to step beyond comfort, engaging deeply with music, movement, and meaning.

Giselle - Olympic Ballet Theatre
Giselle - Olympic Ballet Theatre
Olympic Ballet Theatre presents Giselle for the first time since 2017, re-staged by Artistic Directors Oleg Gorboulev and Mara Vinson after Marius Petipa’s renowned choreography. Set to the evocative score of Adolphe Adam, this romantic masterpiece tells the haunting story of a young peasant girl deceived by her lover. After her untimely death, she is summoned by the vengeful Wilis, yet her enduring love and forgiveness save the man who betrayed her, leaving a timeless tale of passion, heartbreak, and redemption.

Graphite Arts Center will host a showing of two short videos created by Seattle artist Gary Faigin and Tacoma composer Gregory Youtz. Faigin and Youtz met in Earth Creative, an international organization of artists, scientists and educators that uses the power of the arts and sciences to raise awareness about climate change to advance climate justice for all.
The two videos, each under 15 minutes, take us on a tour of many of Faigin’s well-known oil paintings and drawings that use imagery of powerful trains and fragile still life objects to invite contemplation on humanity’s headlong rush toward the domination of nature with increasingly dangerous consequences. Youtz’s scores intensify the experience as the videos move us around the details of the paintings.
Composer Gregory Youtz will be joined by Faigin’s wife Pamela Belyea who is the co-founder, along with Faigin, of Seattle’s Gage Academy. They will talk about the creative processes that led to these two films and their environmental messages.
This will be one of a series of events this coming year celebrating the life and work of Gary Faigin who died in September 2025. It will also be the second environmentally focused presentation by Earth Creative at Graphite. Last July Graphite hosted a screening of Terra Nostra – a video about environmental danger and hope, built on a symphonic score by Christophe Chagnard, who is also the founder of Earth Creative.

Mystery, intrigue, beauty, passion, murder – shine a new light on Caravaggio in this dramatic biography.
Five years in the making, this is the most extensive film ever made about this revolutionary artist. With first-hand testimony from the artist himself on the eve of his mysterious disappearance, this film reveals Caravaggio as never before. Featuring masterpiece after masterpiece and testimony from leading experts from around the world, Caravaggio immerses audiences in the hidden narratives of the artist’s life, piecing together clues embedded within his incredible art.
Caravaggio’s masterpieces are some of art’s most instantly recognisable. No one else uses his signature blend of dramatic light, intense naturalism and bold, striking figures. His astonishing paintings have captivated audiences for centuries. But there lies a deeper mystery – one that still beckons us to explore. What do these masterpieces reveal about the man behind the brush? The intriguing self-depictions within his works – sometimes disguised, sometimes in plain sight – offer a rare window into his psyche and personal struggles. Join us as we unravel the story of one of history’s most brilliant, complex and controversial figures.
Seating is limited and these screenings often sell-out, we suggest reserving your seats well in advance.
