Making art now is hard; making art as a woman during the early modern period was harder. Art historian Eagles explores the lives and art of three Renaissance women painters: Sofonisba Anguissola (c.1532 – 16 November 1625), Lavinia Fontana (24 August 1552 – 11 August 1614), and Artemisia Gentileschi (8 July 1593 – after January 1654).
Come learn with us about the barriers they faced as makers, how their work is in conversation with one another’s, and to celebrate their triumphs as trailblazers.

Lane Eagles Bio:
Lane Eagles has a Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Art History and serves on the faculty for the Masters of Arts in Museology program at the University of Washington Information School. Prior to teaching with the University of Washington, she taught and curated throughout the Puget Sound, most recently as the Associate Curator for the Bellevue Art Museum.
